Finding the root cause of an illness takes a broad understanding of the pathophysiology of a condition combined with a deep understanding of the human body.
I’ve spent decades studying everything from the human gut microbiome to normal cellular physiology, genetics, nutritional science and toxicology in order to develop an understanding of where disease begins in the body.
I recognize the symptoms and patterns of these causes and can seamlessly differentiate between them through my careful interview of patients.
I take the time to listen, to ask the right questions and delve into the history of the illness. Sometimes an illness can be traced all the way back to infancy, and we can see how illness evolved in that individual over the course of their lifetime.
Most illness can be traced back to a handful of imbalances.
These are disruption of the body microbiome, food allergies, nutritional imbalances, hormone imbalances, toxin exposures and psychological disturbances. The careful interview is the most important aspect of understanding what’s going on. Once I see a pattern in a case, I use additional diagnostic tools to confirm or further explore these causative factors.
Testing is integral to my process.
I use a wide array of tests, both conventional lab screening and other more advanced labs to further my evaluation of the root cause of illness. The most common advanced laboratory testing I do evaluates the gut microbial world, food allergies, environmental exposures, adrenal health, mitochondrial function, and nutrient balance in the body.
All of these help paint a picture of the general health of the body and can help point towards critical imbalances that cause or contribute to chronic disease.
I am an expert at conventional lab analysis as well, and can utilize those labs to also see the patterns of disease emerge. I am trained and licensed to order and interpret all clinical labs and diagnostic imaging.
Why Dr. Slezak is the right choice.
One aspect of my care that differentiates me from other providers is how well I explain what’s going on in the body. The origin of the term doctor in latin is docere, which means teacher. I see myself as a teacher for my patients. My goal is for someone to leave my office with an understanding of what’s happening in their body, how they got sick and clear guidance on how to correct whatever imbalances are contributing to their condition.
If we understand how we got sick and what’s going on, it’s so much easier to see the way towards health.
